Îles du Connétable

The Îles du Connétable are two islands within French Guiana that were claimed under the Guano Islands Act of 1856 for the United States of America.
The word "Connétable" is either a deformation of the Dutch word "constapel", which means gunner in Dutch or a deformation of the French "Commis de l'Étable" which means "Clerk of the Stable".
