Şehzade Mehmed Abdülkadir


Şehzade Mehmed Abdülkadir was an Ottoman prince, the son of Sultan Abdul Hamid II and his wife Bidar Kadın.

Life

Şehzade Mehmed Abdülkadir was born on 16 January 1878 in the Dolmabahçe Palace. His mother was Bidar Kadın. He was educated privately. He had a sister Naime Sultan two years elder then him. His circumcision took place in 1890. He was also appointed Colonel of Cavalry Ertuğrul Regiment of Imperial Guards, Ottoman Army. He was a pianist and violinist.
In 1909 after the overthrow of Abdul Hamid in 1909, Abdülkadir followed him to Selonica, and returned to Istanbul the next year. Between 1909 and 1924 he was living in the Kızıltoprak Palace and Büyükdere waterfront Palace. After the empire and the caliphate dissolved in 1924, the Ottoman family went into exile.

Personal life

Abdülkadir wanted to marry Macide Hanım, the youngest daughter of the late Şerif Bey, a retired military officer. Şehzade applied to the sultan for this purpose and the issue was handled in the Duty of the Dynasty of Dynasty Umur. The Assembly did not find it suitable for Prince to marry Macide. This rationale was conveyed to the prince in writing, and it was explained in clear language that it would not be appropriate to marry. Şehzade Abdülkadir Efendi had another marriage without permission that the palace started a series of investigations after being aware of the marriage; penalties were imposed. Prince was married to Meziyet Hanım, who is an ethnic Greek, whose original name was Fatma, was probably the daughter of a retired lieutenant without permission from the sultan.

Death

Mehmed Abdülkadir went first to Budapest, Hungary, and later went to Sofia, Bulgaria. He died on 16 March 1944, and was buried there.
