1752 English cricket season


The 1752 English cricket season was the ninth season following the earliest known codification of the Laws of Cricket. Details have survived of 12 eleven-a-side matches between significant teams.

12 eleven-a-side matches between significant teams are known to have taken place.
A match between Bristol and London at Durdham Down, Clifton, Bristol is known to have taken place at some point during the year.
The matches between Dartford and The Rest were the result of a challenge issued by Dartford to take on any team of 11 players.

Other events

On 27 February, the Daily Advertiser reported that George Smith, the groundskeeper of the Artillery Ground, had taken the late Duke of Somerset's house at Marlborough and intended to open it as an inn. Smith offered the Artillery Ground and its dwelling house on a seven-year lease. An announcement on 30 May suggests that William Sharpe was now in charge of the Artillery Ground.
A match on 31 August featured a "Marylebone Club" playing against London. This was not a forerunner of the Marylebone Cricket Club, formed in 1786.
