1972–73 UEFA Cup

The 1972–73 UEFA Cup was won by Liverpool over Borussia Mönchengladbach on aggregate.
A new team distribution was decided by UEFA, abolishing the Fairs Cup criteria. Two clubs for a nation became the ordinary assignment. However, the five strongest federations had a third club, and the three biggest ones a fourth team: consequently, the eight minor nations could enlist a single club only.
