The 1980 United States presidential election in Georgia took place on November 4, 1980, in Georgia as part of the 1980 United States presidential election.
The Democratic Party candidate, incumbent President Jimmy Carter, won his home state of Georgia over former California Governor Ronald Reagan by 236,565 votes, giving him 1 of just 7 victories in the election.
Georgia weighed in as 25 points more Democratic than the national average. This is slightly down from 1976, when the Peach State weighed in as 32 points more Democratic than the national average. Just 4 years later, Georgia would flip back to Republican territory and vote Republican in every election since., this is the last election in which McDuffie County, Towns County, Gilmer County, Whitfield County, Union County, Rabun County, Stephens County, Jackson County, Banks County, Murray County, Habersham County, Madison County, Hall County, White County, Dawson County, Gordon County, Paulding County, Spalding County, Troup County, Forsyth County, Upson County, Coweta County, Effingham County, Glascock County, Bulloch County, Houston County, Bartow County, Oconee County, Glynn County, Cherokee County, Toombs County, Thomas County, Floyd County, Colquitt County, Camden County, Echols County, Charlton County, Pierce County, Coffee County, Bryan County, Walton County, Oglethorpe County, Evans County, Tattnall County, Tift County, Pike County, Harris County, Carroll County, Appling County, Barrow County, and Wayne County voted for a Democratic presidential candidate. It is also the last occasion Ware County gave a majority to a Democratic presidential candidate, although Bill Clinton and Reagan's running mate George H. W. Bush tied there with 4,573 votes in 1992.
