1989–90 Mersin İdmanyurdu season


Mersin İdmanyurdu Sports Club; located in Mersin, east Mediterranean coast of Turkey in 1989–90. Mersin İdmanyurdu football team in 1989–90 season. The team fought for promotion to first division in second league but finished 3rd in its group.
According to a ranking published in France Football magazine, MİY ranked as 448th among 528 teams who participated in European cups since 1955.
Kaya Mutlu was the president. Head coach was Aydın Tohumcu at the start of the season; in the mid season Gerhart Block took over the team. Most appeared player was Hakan with 32 appearances, while Yasin Evkuran was the top goalscorer with 15 goals.

Pre-season

MİY released 8 players in July 1989. With new transfers MİY formed a challenging team. MİY started season with championshio claims in Second League Group C.
took place in the 1989–90 Second League season. League was played by 51 teams in three groups with 17 teams in each. Nine teams had been promoted from lower league, whereas three had been relegated from upper league. Season was started on 2 September 1989 and ended on 20 May 1990. Top teams in each group were promoted to 1990–91 First League, whereas bottom three teams were relegated to 1990–91 Third League at the end of the season.
Mersin İdmanyurdu took place in the 1989–90 Second League season in Group C and finished 3rd with 16 wins and 43 goals.

1989–90 Turkish Cup participation

was played for the 28th season as Federasyon Kupası by 46 teams: 18 first league teams; 25 second league teams. Five elimination rounds and finals were played in two-legs elimination system. Mersin İdmanyurdu participated in 1989–90 Turkish Cup and eliminated at first elimination round by PTT. Beşiktaş won the Cup for the 3rd time. Because Beşiktaş had also won the league title, Cup finalist Trabzonspor was qualified for 1990–91 European Cup Winners' Cup.

Aydın Tohumcu was the manager at the start of the season. Aydın Tohumcu signed as the head coach on 9 August 1989. On 4 January 1990, the Netherlands national football team's former trainer Gerhart Block became MİY manager.
