2004 US Open – Women's Singles


won the title, defeating compatriot Elena Dementieva in the final, 6–3, 7–5, to win the Women's Singles tennis title at the 2004 US Open. Kuznetsova dropped just one set the entire tournament, to Lindsay Davenport in the semifinals. She became the third Russian woman, after Anastasia Myskina and Maria Sharapova, to win a Grand Slam that year. This was also the second-ever all-Russian Grand Slam final, the first being at the French Open earlier in the year, where Myskina also defeated Dementieva.
Justine Henin-Hardenne was the defending champion, but was defeated by Nadia Petrova
in the fourth round.
