2005 French Open – Men's Singles
defeated Mariano Puerta in the final 6–7, 6–3, 6–1, 7–5 in his first French Open appearance, as well as his first major final, to capture the Men's Singles tennis title at the 2005 French Open. Nadal became the first player to win the French Open in his first try since Mats Wilander in 1982, and the youngest champion since Michael Chang in 1989.
This was also the beginning of an unprecedented run of success at Roland Garros for Nadal, who would go on to win the tournament a record twelve times. Gastón Gaudio was the defending champion, but lost in the fourth round to David Ferrer.
This was notably the first French Open that Novak Djokovic competed in and the first time he went beyond the first round in a Grand Slam. Future three-time Grand Slam champion Stanislas Wawrinka also made his first appearance at a major. 1999 champion Andre Agassi made his last French Open appearance, losing a five-set match to Jarkko Nieminen in the first round.Seeds
