Incumbents

January

January 6 – Seven national guards killed when IED strikes Bradley fighting vehicle.
In late August 2005, violence occurred in Najaf, Nasiriyah, Diwaniyah, and Sadr City. The Shi'ite infighting was between the supporters of cleric Muqtada al-Sadr and the Badr Organization, who are backed by the Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq. Both sides blame each other for the violence. Some Shi'a National Assembly members and ministers suspended their membership in the council because of the violence. Since Sadr's Mahdi Army were expelled from the city of Najaf, fighting between rival Shi'a groups has ceased.

September

At least 32 people have died following an attack on a bus in Baghdad.
