During the second-set tie-break in the semifinal, Fernando Verdasco held five match points against Djokovic but he managed to escape from 2–6 down to take it 9–7.
Andy Murray became the first player to reach the final of the tournament four times, however, his loss in the final ended his 28 match winning streak.
