2017 South American U-20 Championship


The 2017 South American Youth Football Championship italic=unset), italic=unset) was the 28th edition of the South American Youth Football Championship, a football competition for the under-20 national teams in South America organized by CONMEBOL. It was held in Ecuador from 18 January to 11 February 2017.
Uruguay were crowned champions, and together with Ecuador, Venezuela and Argentina, which were the top four teams of this tournament, qualified for the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup in South Korea.

Each team may register a squad of 23 players.

Venues

A total of eight venues were announced in July 2016. The tournament was originally to played in five venues, but Estadio La Cocha in Latacunga was dropped as refurbishment work was not completed in time.

First stage

The draw was held on 7 December 2016, 11:00 local time, at the CONMEBOL headquarters in Luque, Paraguay. The ten teams were drawn into two groups of five. Ecuador and Argentina were seeded into Group A and Group B respectively, while the other four seeding pots, based on the results of the 2015 South American Youth Football Championship, were Colombia–Uruguay, Brazil–Peru, Paraguay–Venezuela, and Bolivia–Chile.
The top three teams in each group advanced to the final stage.

  2. goals scored
  3. head-to-head result between tied teams
  4. drawing of lots
