2018 Ohio gubernatorial election


The 2018 Ohio gubernatorial election took place on November 6, 2018, to elect the next governor of Ohio, concurrently with the election of Ohio's Class I U.S. Senate seat, as well as other elections to the United States Senate in other states, elections to the United States House of Representatives, and various Ohio and local elections. Incumbent Republican Governor John Kasich was term-limited and could not seek reelection to a third consecutive term.
The Republicans nominated Ohio Attorney General and former U.S. Senator Mike DeWine and the Democratic nominee was former Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Director and former Ohio Attorney General Richard Cordray. This was the second face off for DeWine and Cordray, following the 2010 election for attorney general where DeWine won by 47.5% to 46.3%. DeWine defeated Cordray 50.4% to 46.7% in a rematch of their 2010 election. Despite Cordray's loss, he became the first Democratic gubernatorial candidate to win Cincinnati's Hamilton County since Dick Celeste in 1982.
DeWine and Husted took office on January 14, 2019.
