2019–20 2nd Division League


The 2020 2nd Division League will be the 13th season of the I-League 2nd Division, the second division Indian football league, since its establishment in 2008. The league is scheduled to kick-off from 25 January 2020.

Teams

This season, 17 teams will be participating, comprising 1 reserve side from I-League and 8 from Indian Super League. All the teams will divided in 3 groups of 6 teams in A and C, and 5 teams in group B. The teams those will make their debut this season are Bengaluru United, Rajasthan FC, Punjab FC, Hyderabad FC and Mumbai City FC. Indian Arrows reserves were supposed to debut this season, but later withdrew, since it consists of U-16 and U-18 players, and have their board examinations.

Foreign players

Each club, excluding the reserve sides, can register three foreign players in their squad. One of the foreign players has to be from an AFC Member Nation.

Ranking of 2nd Placed Teams

Final round

Group champions from preliminary round and best second-placed team between Group A and C will qualify for this round. Here, four qualified teams will play at a central venue on a single-leg league system. The team that finishes top of the table in the final round will be crowned champions, and will be promoted to the I League next season. All placed team may also possibly qualify, based on the decision taken by the AIFF.
