2020 EFL Championship play-off Final


The 2020 EFL Championship play-off Final will be an association football match to determine the third and final team to gain promotion from the EFL Championship to the Premier League. It will be played at Wembley Stadium in London. The top two teams at the end of the 2019–20 EFL Championship season gained automatic promotion to the Premier League, while the teams placed from third to sixth place in the table participated in the play-off semi-finals. Brentford and Fulham were the winners of their respective semi-finals and will compete in a West London derby for the final place in the 2020–21 Premier League.

Route to the final

Brentford and Fulham finished third and fourth, respectively, in the 2019–20 season in the EFL Championship, the second tier of the English football league system. Both teams finished the regular season with 81 points, with Brentford ranked higher based on goal difference.
Fulham's Aleksandar Mitrović and Brentford's Ollie Watkins tied for the distinction as Championship top scorers with 26 goals each. Mitrović and Watkins each scored one hat-trick during the 2019–20 season; Saïd Benrahma and Josh Dasilva also scored hat-tricks for Brentford.
Brentford went on an eight-game win streak near the end of the season, starting with a 5–0 home win against Sheffield Wednesday on 7 March and ending with a 1–0 home win against Preston North End on 15 July. Fulham finished the regular season by going unbeaten for their last seven games, a streak that started with a 2–1 away win against QPR on 30 June.
