2020 National Development League season

Due to the Covid 19 pandemic Speedway Great Britain announced in a official statement on Tuesday 21 July that the 2020 league would be cancelled.
The National Development League for the 2020 season will be the third tier/division of British speedway. There were several team changes for the 2020 league season with Armadale Devils located in Edinburgh entered a team into the league. However, Cradley Heathens did not enter a team and Stoke Potters' home venue at Loomer Road Stadium has been sold and the team will not be operating in 2020.. Although Kent Kings moved up a division into the 2020 SGB Championship, they retained a team in the National Development League -the new Kent Royals team, whose nickname was decided via a competition from local schools.

Regulation changes

At the National Development League AGM in December 2019, the team averages were increased to 39.00 points per team, with a minimum average per rider also increased to 3.00. Also, in National Development League Trophy matches immediately prior to the meeting, the away team manager will select two races between Heats 5 and 12 inclusive where the highest-averaged rider from each team in that race will start from a 15-metre handicap, between Heats 5 and 12 inclusive, an additional tactical option is available to a team six or more points in arrears who can, on one occasion, select gate positions for the following race.
