36 (Eastern) Signal Regiment


36 Signal Regiment was a Territorial Army regiment in the Royal Corps of Signals in the British Army. The regiment formed part of 2 Signal Brigade, providing military communications for national operations. It was disbanded effective 31 March 2010, with elements being subsumed by the 37th and 39th Signal Regiments.

Its layout was as follows:
Regimental Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron - Selsdon Road, Wanstead.
These later moved to Gordon Fields, Ilford
44th Signal Squadron
The Squadron HQ later moved to Grays, Essex, with signal troops at Grays and Southend
45th Signal Squadron
The Squadron headquarters later moved to Circular Road East, Colchester, on the closure of Brentwood in 2006
54th Signal Squadron
Light Aid Detachment REME - Newbury Park
In 2006 the Regiment changed roles to become part of 2nd Signal Brigade.
During these changes 44 Signal Squadron was closed, and 60 Signal Squadron gained from 71 Signal Regiment.
The Signal troops at Bedford and Cambridge were attached to 60 Signal Squadron, Norwich signal troop converted to Army Air Corps, and 54 Squadron moved to Ilford.
Under the Strategic Review of the Reserves in April, 2009 the Regiment was downsized to a squadron, and became the 36 Signal Squadron, based at Colchester, under 37 Signal Regiment based at Redditch.
36 Signal Squadron comprises:
60 Signal Squadron also downsized to 860 Signal Troop and became part of the Berkshire Yeomanry, 94 Signal Squadron, under 39 Signal Regiment, at Bristol.
Under the SDSR changes at the end of 2013, The squadron moved to 71 Yeomanry Signal Regiment. Both 860 Signal Troop at Aylesbury and 854 Signal Troop at Cambridge were removed from the Army's order of battle, and in April 2014 907 Signal troop at Chelmsford moved from 68 Signal Squadron to 36 Signal squadron, allowing the squadron to be renamed as 36 Signal Squadron.

Affiliations

36 Signal Regiment is affiliated with the Worshipful Company of Poulters and each year the Master presents the "Poulters Plate" to the best soldier in the Regiment.
