A Litre of Tears (film)


A Litre of Tears is a film based on Aya Kito's memoir, 1 Litre no Namida.
Asae Ōnishi is the lead actress, starring as Aya Kito. 9th grader Aya Kito collapses on the way to school. Dr. Yamamoto discovers that Aya has spinocerebellar ataxia, a fatal and incurable disease that handicaps the body. Aya's mother, Shioka Kito and Dr. Yamamoto let Aya record in a diary to tell her story and to live her life to the fullest.

Trivia

Asae Ōnishi also made appearance in the TV adaptation with the same name as Asumi Oikawa, the roommate of Aya during her days in special school for disabled people. Asumi Oikawa had the same disease as Aya had, but more advanced. She died approximately 1.5 years before Aya.
