Abra is a financial services and technology company that operates an all-in-one cryptocurrency wallet and exchange app. The Abra app is available on both iOS and Android platforms and allows users to deposit, withdraw, exchange, and hold 4 native coins, which includes Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Ethereum, and Litecoin in one place. In addition to this, Abra supports a multitude of cryptocurrency assets, allowing users to exchange and hold over 50 cryptocurrencies excluding the aforementioned native coins.
Abra was founded in 2014 in the Silicon Valley by Bill Barhydt, a former software engineer for Goldman Sachs and former director of Netscape.
In September 2015, the company received $12 million in Series A funding from an investment group led by RRE Ventures, First Round Capital, and Arbor Ventures.
In March 2018, Abra added support for 20 new cryptocurrencies including Litecoin, Ether, Vertcoin, Bitcoin Cash and Stellar.
In June 2018, Abra was listed in the Wall Street Journal as one of the "Top 25 Tech Companies to Watch in 2018".
Starting in September 2018, Abra CEO Bill Barhydt began conversations with some of the largest cryptocurrency leaders in the community, labeling these conversations as "Crypto Bites" and posting them on YouTube. The conversations included the likes of Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin, Bitcoin Cash founder Roger Ver, investor Tim Draper, and Bitwise CEO Hunter Horsley.
In July 2020, Abra began offering an interest-bearing account offering high yields of 4.10% APY for Bitcoin, 4.00% APY for Ethereum, and 9.00% APY for some of the most popular Stablecoins including USD Coin, Tether, True USD, and Paxos.
