Edward Mohlomi Ramolula, known professionally as AirDee is a South Africanrecord producer, composer and an entrepreneur. He is the founder of his proprietorship AirDee Global Production under which he produces and publishes music for many of the artists he works with. Ramolula has produced charting songs for artists including YoungstaCPT, Locnville, L-Tido, K.O, Cashtime and Chad Da Don among others. During the early 2010s Ramolula worked extensively with Psyfo producing a number of records notably 'Sorry Makhe' by DJ Vigilante and 'Imma Tell Her' by DJ Capital with the latter featuring Psyfo on the chorus. Ramolula is credited with production on iFani's Club 808 chart topping single 'Milli'. Most recently, in a bid to showcase his versatility Ramolula has been working with a lot of artists from other genre's. This has spawned the radio excitable single 'Better With Silence' which has Ramolula as a lead artist alongside Locnville with additional vocals by YoungstaCPT.
Early life
Born in the judicial capital of South Africa, Ramolula's musical journey started to take shape when he was 16. He would often participate in beat boxing and hip hop cypher battles with school mates. From thereon he cemented his identity with hip hop music's versatility and its massive cultural influence of trends and the found his passion among general consensus with the youth, music. His skill was honed during university days where he used breaks between classes to master his craft and technical ability. During this period of his life Ramolula decided that, despite studying Agriculture at the Central University of Technology he would yield the farms for the love of music, a SlikourOnLife article on Ramolula states "He doesn't miss the farm", a sitdown interview in which the producer shares how he used to randomly send beats to Rappers until he got his break. How growing up in a musical home he knew he would end up in the record industry.
Career
2014–2016: ''Cashtime & Breakthrough hits''
Rapper IFani met Ramolula through BlackBerry Messenger. They would subsequently work on 'Milli'. This song brought mainstream success for Ramolula after getting considerable airplay. Ramolula would then go on to work with Psyfo on the DJ Capital single 'Imma Tell Her'. It was during this period that Ramolula produced 'Sorry Makhe' by DJ Vigilante. Ramolula also had a brief stint as an in house record producer for Cashtime Life. Ramolula won Best Producer at the Free StateGolden Bean Awards at the 2016 Ceremony.
2017–2019: ''AirDee Global Production and Electronic Sound''
In 2017 Ramolula was named in the list of "9 Producers behind South African Hip Hop Hits by Live Mag". He established his own sole proprietorship Production Company 'Airdee Global' "I want to put on as many kids from the Free State on before I die or retire". Ramolula currently produces and distributes under his own company. Ramolula worked extensively with Chad Da Don and YoungstaCPT on the songs "F.U" and "F.U.2". In 2018 he released 'Better With Silence' as the lead artist alongside Locnville. He reiterated what the collaboration meant to him as he has "Always been a fan of the homies", the song also featured YoungstaCPT. Ramolula then worked on YoungstaCPTs' 3T Album. Ramolula produced a piano heavy 'Rare Intro' on the Zoocci Coke Dope and Die Mondez collaborative EP 'Die Dope'. Ramolula would then produce Sheba on Manu Worldstar's 'Young African Story' EP. Ramolula's last production effort of the decade was 'Run' by Free State rap duo StinoLeThwenny.
Musical style
Ramolula has described his sound as an influence of 'Lesenke' which is south-sotho word for corrugated iron. It is Kwaito influenced rhythm that brings a timeless element to the current Hip Hop sound. He also has strong command over the piano as can be heard throughout his output. The word Lesenke is also used to refer to Cassette tapes or classical music.
