Alex Portman


Alex Portman, born Hon Alexander Michael Berkeley Portman, The son of Edward Portman, 9th Viscount Portman, is a retired British racer. He raced in the eighties in the TVR Tuscan Challenge and some Historic Racing events;winning a championship 1991 and 1992 in a Ray Mallock built GT40. In 1990, he drove in the GM Vauxhall Lotus Euroseries, and raced in Canada in 1991 with the North American Formula Atlantic Championship. He also did some races in the British GT Championship.

BTCC

For 1992, he competed in the prestigious British Touring Car Championship, replacing Bobby Verdon-Roe for the last part of the season with the Ecurie Ecosse Vauxhall team in a Vauxhall Cavalier. He finished the year outside the points. In 1993, he moved to Team Dynamics, alongside Matt Neal in a BMW 318is Coupe. His best finish was a tenth place in the fifth round at Oulton Park, ending the season with one point.
