Amalia Moretti


Amalia Moretti Foggia was an Italian physician and journalist.
She was born in Mantua but later lived and worked in Milan. She was the third woman to graduate in medicine from the University of Bologna; she studied pediatrics in Florence.
She published a column on health and hygiene under the pseudonym Dottor Amal in La Domenica del Corriere; her contributions, aimed at improving he lives of the disadvantaged, also included recipes published under the name Petronilla. Several collections of these recipes were later published separately, including Ricette and Altre ricette; these collections became best-sellers.
She died in Milan.
