Amanda Sullivan Randle Rudd


Amanda Sullivan Randle Rudd was an American librarian and the first African American to serve as Commissioner of the Chicago Public Library.
Born in Greenville, South Carolina, she attended Florida A & M University and Case Western Reserve University. She initially worked as a schoolteacher in Cleveland before becoming a librarian. After moving to Chicago she joined the Public Library in 1975 and served as its head from 1982 to 1985.
