Amrita Puri


Amrita Puri is an Indian film actress.
After auditioning for a few films, Puri made her film debut with a supporting role in the romantic comedy Aisha, which earned her Filmfare nominations for Best Female Debut and Best Supporting Actress. She had her first commercial success three years later with the male buddy film Kai Po Che!.

Career

After completing her post-graduation, Puri started her career through writing and doing theatre, with her first play being Quasar Thakore Padamsee's English play Retellings View From The Stage. For a year she did copywriting for advertising agency Ogilvy along with freelancing for lifestyle magazine. After getting her portfolio done by Dilip Bhatia, she started auditioning for movies and ad films. Soon she did her first ad for Kotex and later featured in ads and TV commercials for several brands, including People First, Garnier and L'Oreal.

Bollywood debut and other roles (2010—13)

After few auditions for many films, Puri made her Bollywood film debut with Rajshree Ojha's directed Aisha. The romantic comedy, co-starring Sonam Kapoor and Abhay Deol, saw Puri portray the supporting character of Shefali Thakur, the friend of the titular lead Aisha. The film, as well as her performance, received mostly positive reviews, but with worldwide earnings of 28.65 crore on a budget of 19 crore, the film proved to be a critical and commercial failure but earned Puri two nominations at the annual Filmfare Awards—Best Debut and Best Supporting Actor.
After the failure of her first Bollywood film, Puri appeared opposite Kunal Khemu in Vishal Mahadkar's directorial debut—the crime thriller Blood Money —in which she portrayed the wife of Khemu's character. The film received mixed response from critics who watched it, and had a worldwide gross of 120 million on a budget of 90 million, thus becoming an "average grosser". Puri next appeared in Abhishek Kapoor's buddy drama Kai Po Che! alongside Sushant Singh Rajput, Amit Sadh and Rajkummar Rao. An adaptation of the novel The 3 Mistakes of My Life, she was cast as Vidya Bhatt, a district level cricketer's younger sister who falls in love with his best friend. The film proved to be a critical and commercial success with earnings of over in worldwide ticket sales.

Television works (2015–2019)

Puri made her television debut with the series Stories by Rabindranath Tagore in which she had an episodic role. In 2016, she portrayed the lead role of Harleen Kaur opposite Purab Kohli in the series P.O.W. - Bandi Yuddh Ke that aired on Star Plus. The show ended in 2017. In 2019, she was part of two web series - Four More Shots Please! and Made In Heaven.

Personal life

She is the daughter of Aditya Puri, MD of HDFC Bank. She resides in Mumbai, India. She is married to Mumbai-based Imrun Sethi
