Anel Hadžić


Anel Hadžić is a Bosnian professional footballer who plays as a defensive midfielder.
Hadžić started his professional career at Wels, before joining Ried in 2007. Six years later, he moved to Sturm Graz. In 2016, he was transferred to Eskişehirspor. Later that year, he signed with Fehérvár.
A former Austrian youth international, Hadžić made his senior international debut for Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2014, earning 14 caps until 2017. He represented the nation at their first major tournament, the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Club career

Early career

Hadžić came through Ried's youth academy, which he joined from a local club. He made his professional debut playing for Wels in 2007.
In July 2007, Hadžić returned to Ried. On 25 October 2009, Hadžić scored his first professional goal against Red Bull Salzburg.
In May 2013, Hadžić signed a two-year deal with Sturm Graz.
In January 2016, he was transferred to Turkish club Eskişehirspor for a fee of around €300,000.

Fehérvár

On 29 August 2016, Hadžić signed a two-year contract with Hungarian side Fehérvár. On his competitive debut for the team, he managed to score a goal in a cup game away at Pécsi. He made his league debut on 24 September and provided an assist for the winning goal against Honvéd. A month later, he scored his first league goal for Fehérvár against Paksi.
Hadžić won his first title with the club on 27 May 2018, when they were crowned league champions.
In June 2018, Hadžić extended his contract until June 2020.
Hadžić was sent off in his 100th game for the club against Ferencváros on 20 April 2019.
In April 2020, he and Fehérvár agreed to rescind his contract.

International career

Despite representing Austria on various youth levels, Hadžić decided to play for Bosnia and Herzegovina on senior level.
In September 2013, his application to change sport citizenship from Austrian to Bosnian was approved by FIFA. Subsequently, in February 2014 he received his first senior call-up, for friendly game against Egypt, and debuted in that game on 5 March.
Later that year Hadžić was named in Bosnia and Herzegovina's squad for 2014 FIFA World Cup, country's first major competition. He made his competition debut in last group match against Iran on 25 June.

Personal life

Hadžić has a younger brother, Elvir, who is also a footballer.
He married his long-time girlfriend Alma in June 2019.
