Anna Polony


Anna Polony is a Polish theatre and film actress. She became active as a theatre director in the latter part of her career.
She studied acting in Ludwik Solski Academy for the Dramatic Arts in Kraków and graduated in 1960. Additionally she studied theatrical directing in the school and graduated in 1984.
Polony's theatrical debut was Jerzy Kaliszewski's adaptation of Jean Giraudoux's play Wojny trojańskiej nie będzie in 1959 at the Stary Teatr in Kraków. She was engaged with the theatre from 1964 to 2002. She collaborated in several plays with renowned Polish director Konrad Swinarski.
Her directing career began in 1974 with William Gibson's Two for the Seesaw. Later she became one of the most prominent directors of the Old Theatre. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Polony received nationwide recognition and success as a theatre director.
The most notable plays she directed include Harold Pinter's The Birthday Party, Sławomir Mrożek's Wdowy, and Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew.
