Apostolic Vicariate of Mongo


The Apostolic Vicariate of Mongo is a Latin Catholic pre-diocesan missionary jurisdiction in Sahel-country Chad.
It is exempt, i.e. directly dependent on the Holy See, not part of any ecclesiastical province.
Its cathedral episcopal see is the Cathédrale Saint-Ignace, dedicated to Saint Ignatius, in Mongo, Chad, in Guéra.

History

Established on 2001.12.01 as Apostolic Prefecture of Mongo on territory split off from the Metropolitan Archdiocese of N'Djaména and from the Diocese of Sarh.
Promoted on 2009.06.03 as Apostolic Vicariate of Mongo, hence entitled to a titular bishop.
