Arias Navarro II Government


The Arias Navarro II Government was formed on 12 December 1975 following Carlos Arias Navarro's confirmation as Prime Minister of Spain by King Juan Carlos I on 5 December, as a result of his enthronement as new head of state of Spain following Francisco Franco's death on 20 November 1975. Arias Navarro's second cabinet was the first to serve under the restored monarchy of Spain. Proving incapable of adapting to the coming changes and reluctant to democratize the regime, Arias Navarro would submit his resignation as prime minister on 1 July 1976, with the cabinet remaining in acting capacity under Fernando de Santiago until the next government was sworn in.
