Before Eurovision

Artist selection

On 11 December 2011, during a press conference, ARMTV announced Emmy as the Armenian entrant at the Eurovision Song Contest 2011.

National final

The song that Emmy would perform at the 2011 contest was selected through a national final. ARMTV opened the song submission period for composers to send their entries in English and/or in Armenian until 23 January 2011. From all 70 songs submitted, a jury shortlisted fifteen songs. Ultimately four of the songs were selected for the competition, with their composers being announced on 10 February 2011. The songs were released on 2 March 2011 and were occasionally played on radio, internet and broadcast on ARMTV until the final.
The final was scheduled to take place on 19 February 2011. However, the date was later moved forward to 26 February 2011. This which later moved forward as well due to a personal tragedy in Emmy's family. The final took place on 5 March 2011 at the ARMTV Studios in Yerevan, hosted by Gohar Gasparyan and Khoren Levonyan. All four competing songs were performed by Emmy with the winning song, "Boom Boom", being decided upon by a 50/50 combination of the votes from a jury and a public SMS vote.
