Asylum, California

Asylum is an unincorporated community in Mendocino County, California. It is located on the Northwestern Pacific Railroad just south of Ukiah, at an elevation of 607 feet.
Asylum has been noted for its unusual place name, named after the now-closed lunatic asylum Mendocino State Asylum for the Insane nearby, later renamed as the Mendocino State Hospital and today the City of Ten Thousand Buddhas.
