Auno attack
During the evening of 9 February 2020, a group of heavily armed men in trucks carried out an attack of mass murder, looting, arson and kidnapping against civilians in Auno, Borno State, northeastern Nigeria. Auno is about to the west of Maiduguri. The attack happened on the A3 highway, which links Maiduguri to Potiskum in Yobe State. Most of the victims were waiting to drive east, having had to stop because the Army had shut the road to Maiduguri. Many were asleep when the attack began. The insurgents killed at least 30 people, destroyed 18 vehicles and abducted women and children.
The attackers are suspected to be members of Boko Haram, a jihadist group whose insurgency in Nigeria began in 2009.
