Babette Cochois


Babette Cochois was a French writer and ballerina active in Prussia.
She was the sister of the ballerina Marianne Cochois. She was engaged at the French court theatre and opera of Frederick the Great in Prussia in 1743-49, where she was considered a leading artist of that stage and was given the privilege to reside in Charlottenburg Palace.
In 1749 she married the French writer Jean-Baptiste de Boyer, Marquis d'Argens and became active as a writer.
She has been the subject of poems and a famous painting by Antoine Pesne.
