The total number of literates in Bahraich was 11,564, which constituted 64.2% of the population with male literacy of 66.5% and female literacy of 61.7%. The effective literacy rate of 7+ population of Bahraich was 73.7%, of which male literacy rate was 76.4% and female literacy rate was 70.8%. The Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes population was 9,584 and 170 respectively. Bahraich had 3460 households in 2011.

Bahraich railway station is the main railway station in Bahraich district, Uttar Pradesh. Its code is BRK. It serves to the residents of Bahraich city. The station consists of 3 platforms, two for broad gauge and one for meter gauge. Currently 3 pairs of DEMU trains are running between Gonda to Bahraich. Also the Ministry of railways has decided to lay a line between Bahraich and Khalilabad via shravasti, whose budget is already sanctioned. This project is expected to be completed in 2025. Bahraich to Jarwal Road is a Broad gauge station 55 kilometers from district headquarters and lies on Delhi–Barauni line. Also Bahraich Jarwal road Rail link is the need of hour.

Thakur Hukum Singh Visen - Former Cabinet Minister of UP for nearly three decades. Served with Govind Ballabh Pant, Sampurnanand, Sucheta Kriplani, Chandra Bhan Gupta etc. He was No 2 in the cabinet. Served as Revenue, Health, Agriculture, Parliamentary Affairs Minister, amongst the more important ministries during his political term. Established High School, Inter College, District Civil Hospital, Largest Dam etc. which are all named after him. He also served as the leader of the house of Uttar Pradesh upper assembly. Born in 1892 to Thakur Sabha Singh, the Zamindar of Lador. He served as a minister and deputy to GB Pant in the very first Congress Govt formed in 1937.
