History

The station opened on July 26, 1898, as Atami Station. It was renamed Iwaki-Atami Station on March 20, 1925, and renamed Bandai-Atami on June 1, 1965. The station was absorbed into the JR East network upon the privatization of the Japanese National Railways on April 1, 1987.
