Bansi Kaul


Bansi Kaul is a Hindi theatre director and the founder of Rang Vidushak, a theatre group and Theatre institute in Bhopal.

Biography

Bansi Kaul was born 23 August 1949 in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, and later graduated from National School of Drama, New Delhi in 1973.
He started his career as a director with NSD Repertory Company and was also in the faculty of the school for many years, before forming his own theatre group in 1984.
He was awarded the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, given by Sangeet Natak Akademi, India's National Academy of Music, Dance and Drama, in 1995, and the Padma Shri by Government of India in 2014.
His most known performance is 'Kehan Kabir', based on collected works of poet-saint Kabir.
He is conferred with Rashtriya Kalidas Samman for the year 2016–17.

Rang Vidhushak

In 1984, he founded Rang Vidushak, a theatre group that has incorporated folk idioms into its production and evolved a new idiom of clown-theatre.
It has performed in India and elsewhere in several languages such as Hindi, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Tamil and Singhalese.
