Barciany


Barciany is a village in Kętrzyn County, Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, in northern Poland, close to the border with the Kaliningrad Oblast of Russia. It is the seat of the gmina called Gmina Barciany. It lies approximately north of Kętrzyn and north-east of the regional capital Olsztyn.
Its name originates from the name of an Old Prussian tribe, the Bartians. An Ordensburg was erected in 1325, but stone was not used until 1377.
The village has a population of 1,100.
