Basilica of Our Lady of Nazareth of Exile
The Basilica of Our Lady of Nazareth of Exile or the Basilica of Belém is a Catholic temple in the city of Belém, the building of which started in 1909 at the place where the image of the Virgin of Nazareth was found by Plácido José de Souza. state of Pará, on the banks of the Murututu Igarapé in Brazil.
The current temple, marked by several architectural styles, whose strengths are neoclassical and eclectic, began to be built in 1909, with the laying of its cornerstone on October 24 of that year by the then Archbishop of Belem Santino Maria Coutinho.
It was declared a basilica in 1923 and elevated to the status of the Archdiocesan Marian Sanctuary on May 31, 2006, becoming the Basilica Sanctuary of the Virgin of Nazareth.
