Belle Fourche Formation


The Belle Fourche Formation or Belle Fourche Shale is a geologic unit classification in Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wyoming, formed in a stage of the Western Interior Seaway, and roughly corresponding in age with the Graneros Shale classification in states to the south and east. It preserves fossils dating back to the Cretaceous period.
