Bellwood School District 88

Bellwood School District 88 is a school district headquartered in Bellwood, Illinois in the Chicago metropolitan area. It operates seven schools.

History

Jeninne M. Hixson served as the executive assistant of the superintendent from September 2011 through October 2014. She sued the district on June 26, 2015, accusing it of firing her for siding with some politicians running for office.
In 2016 the Chicago Tribune reported that the district allowed employees to have family members hired and gave generous compensation to the superintendent despite the tight finances experienced by the district.
Board member Patricia Crawford, who had criticized some of the spending habits, resigned from the board in 2017 and became an SD88 parent liaison; this position had been created prior to her hiring.
