Benedicta Ward


Sister Benedicta Ward is a theologian and historian of early Christian spirituality at Harris Manchester College, University of Oxford. She is particularly known for her research on the Desert Fathers, popularizing the collection known as the Apophthegmata Patrum. She has also written extensively on Anselm of Canterbury and Bede.

Works

Ward has written a number of books and articles, including translations of premodern texts. She is also a regular public speaker, including on the BBC series A History of the World in 100 Objects. A festschrift was published in her honour in 2014.
