Bhuvana Sundari Katha


Bhuvana Sundari Katha is a 1967 Telugu swashbuckling adventure fantasy film, produced by Thota Subba Rao under the Sridevi Productions banner and directed by C. Pullaiah. It stars N. T. Rama Rao, Krishna Kumari in the lead roles and music composed by Ghantasala.

Plot

The film is a tale in between two kingdoms; Vichitrapuram, ruled by King Chitrasena and Kanchanapuram, ruled by Hiranyavarma. Chitrasena is interested in fancy items and he announces that whoever gets it will be given half of his kingdom. Hiranyavarma is religious and truthful, he installs a chair Bhuvaneshwari Peetam, that whoever enters into it, if innocent he will be garlanded and a culprit becomes a prey to the tiger. Hiranyavarma keeps Rajaguru as a Judge. Once Rajagaru's son Devadatta tries to molest Princess Bhuvana Sundari, he is accused, sent into the Peetam and the tiger eats him. But no one knows that Rajaguru has let him escape through a secret way and orders him to leave the country for a few days. On the way, Devadatta meets a stranger Bujjaiah and both of the traveling together and they notice a flying palanquin. Unfortunately, its maker is killed by a demon; Devadatta & Bujjaiah hands over the palanquin and gifts it to Chitrasena. Prince Chandrasena wants to test it. He starts traveling without complete knowledge which goes in the wrong direction, lands at Bhuvana Sundari's palace where they love each other. Observing a change in the statue of Goddess Bhuvaneshwari Devi, they search the palace and capture Chandrasena. Rajagaru sends him into the Peetam but Chandrasena escapes and flees away along with Bhuvana Sundari. After reaching their kingdom, Devadatta spots Bhuvana Sundari and he wants to grab her, so, he plans with Bujjaiah. On that night they steal the palanquin, take away Bhuvana Sundari and reach Kanchipuram. After that, Devadatta kills Bujjaiah, somehow Bhuvana Sundari gets away from him and reaches the palace. But no one believes her words that Devadatta is alive and thinks she has become mad.
Chandrasena, in search of Bhavana Sundari travels towards Kanchipuram, on the way he relieves a demon from its curse, where he is blessed with the trick Parakaya Pravesha. After reaching Kanchipuram, he takes shelter at washer man Tippayya's house. As there is no way to enter the palace, Chandrasena teaches Tippayya the trick, exchanges their bodies and brings out Bhuvana Sundari. But Tippayya refuses to give back his body. Helpless, Chandrasena moves to his kingdom, by the time, Rajagaru recognizes that Chandrasena and Tippayya are exchanged, so, he sends Tippayya along with Devadatta to Vichitrapuram and keeps him as the prince. Chandrasena is arrested and Chitrasena makes the marriage arrangements of Chandrasena & Bhuvana Sundari, where Rajaguru makes an evil plan by becoming an astrologer and says that Bhuvana Sundari is having a bad horoscope, so, put her in a box and throw her into the water, they do so. But in between, she has been saved by tribal and they put a wild bear in it. Meanwhile, Chandrasena escapes from jail, Tippayya, Rajaguru & Devadatta reach the forest, when they open the box, the wild bear attacks, Chandrasena kills it, but Rajaguru backstabs him, so, he takes the body of the bear, kills Rajaguru and also threatens Tippayya and gets back his body. At the same time, Devadatta locates Bhuvana Sundari and seizes her in the flying palanquin, Chandrasena protects her and kills Devadatta. Finally, the movie ends with the marriage of Chandrasena & Bhuvana Sundari.
