Big Boy (EP)

Big Boy is the first EP from the Quebec singer Charlotte Cardin released in 2016. Cardin is presenting her EP to the public with a tour around Canada and a bit inside the United States in 2017.

Critical reception

According to Unsung Sundays, Cardin's voice in Big Boy is "impeccable" and promoting a "sensual" touch to the "French jazz-influenced pop EP". The singer took upon herself a "delightfully minimal" EP, it is "single-minded and focused". The instrumentation is referred as "dripping with atmosphere, and oozing with sensuality." Unsung Sundays also brings up that "the production on the record is deceiving, because it sounds bigger than it is", also revealing that in Cardin's voice "there isn't a hint of autotune".
Stephen Carlick from Exclaim! believes songs such as Like it Doesn't Hurt is "a masterful display of songwriting". He refers to Cardin's voice to be "smoky, billowing effortless but thick in the air". Carlick compares Dirty Dirty to a tune that "evokes Amy Winehouse" and Faufile, a French song of the record, to a "powerful, straightforward ballad". But, according to the editor, the title track Big Boy "proves the weakest cut here" and "out-of-time" amongst the other songs presented.
