Big House (Canadian band)

Big House was a Canadian punk-influenced rock band, based in Edmonton, Alberta, and active in the early 1990s.

History

The band originally consisted of vocalist Jan Ek, guitarist K. B. Broc, bassist Craig Beakhouse and drummer Sjor Throndson. They formed in 1981 as a punk rock band named Down Syndrome, but evolved toward a more commercial hard rock sound and became Big House in 1987.
Big House released a four-song EP, Pretty Things, in 1990 as a preview of their self-titled debut album, which was released in 1991 on BMG Records. By the time they began touring to support the album, however, Beakhouse had left the band and was replaced by Jay Scott King. The album was a Juno Award nominee for Best Hard Rock Album at the Juno Awards of 1992.
The band's single, "Dollar in My Pocket", topped the RPM Canadian Content chart in August 1991, and appeared on RPM's Top Singles chart that month.
The band's only further release before breaking up was Live in Concert, a live album recorded at a concert performance in Toronto, Ontario which was distributed exclusively as a bonus gift to subscribers of Metal Forces magazine.
