Birse Civils

Birse Civils was a civil engineering company based in North Yorkshire, England. It was formerly a separate civil engineering company simply known as Birse Group, but was taken over by Balfour Beatty in 2006 who dropped the brand in 2014.

History

The company was founded by Peter Birse as the Birse Group in 1970. It was based in Doncaster.
In February 2002, it separated its building, civil engineering, rail, underground and process divisions into Birse Build, Birse CL, Birse Rail, Birse Metro and Birse Process.

Acquisition

In June 2006, it was bought by Balfour Beatty for £32 million.
Birse Build was integrated into Balfour Beatty's Mansell company. The remaining Birse companies initially continued to function as independent OPCO's under the Balfour Beatty flag.
However, in 2014 Birse Civils was re-branded Balfour Beatty Construction Services UK.
