Blake Cashman

Blake Cashman is an American football linebacker for the New York Jets of the National Football League. He played college football at Minnesota and was drafted by the Jets in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL Draft.

College career

It took Cashman two years to earn his scholarship, but the wait was worth it now that he has NFL prospects. His father played football at the University of St. Thomas, a private Catholic university in the Twin Cities. Cashman got preferred walk-on status at Minnesota after earning first-team all-state honors as a senior. He played in 13 games on special teams as a true freshman and then stepped into a key reserve role as a sophomore, making 45 tackles, 7.5 for loss, and earning the Holiday Bowl Most Valuable Player award in the team's win over Washington State. He was a reserve again in 2017, playing in all 12 games. His persistence paid off in his senior season, as Big Ten coaches named him third-team all-conference after he led the Gophers with 104 tackles in 12 games. Cashman did not play in the team's bowl game due to injury concerns and to prepare for the draft.
