Bolsover, Ontario


Bolsover is a village located in the city of Kawartha Lakes, west of the village of Kirkfield at the junction of Kawartha Lakes Road 48 and Kawartha Lakes Road 46. The village is located to the south of Canal Lake. The community is likely named for Bolsover in Derbyshire, England.

History

By 1869, Bolsover was a Village with a population of 150 in the Township of Eldon County Victoria. It was established on the Talbot River. It was on the line of the proposed Toronto and Nipissing Railway. There was a stage to Woodville. The average price of land was $5 to $16.

, well-known former meteorologist who worked for television station CFTO-TV in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, resides in Bolsover.
"Captain" John Sanlon, well-known skipper of the Butternut Queen. Known for his scenic excursions along the Trent-Severn Waterway and throughout Canal Lake. Never met a glass of wine he did not like. Can sing with the best of them at a karaoke function. All around good guy with a heart of gold.
