Boomtown 2020


Boomtown 2020, also known as Boomtown Chapter 12: New Beginnings, was to be the 2020 production of an immersive annual five-day theatrical music festival that takes place near Winchester, Hampshire on the Matterley Estate in South Downs National Park. Boomtown Chapter 12 was set to take place from Wednesday until Sunday, 12–16 August 2020, but was cancelled on April 30 due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Impact of [COVID-19 pandemic]

On 26 March 2020, the festival announced a shift towards a scaled-down, more "intimate" event as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, but stated they still intend for the event to go ahead in August.
On 30 April 2020, the organisers announced the festival will no longer go ahead in a post titled "We will dance together again".

''State of Emergency'' show

New for 2020 was State of Emergency, a new multi-stage theatrical show as a new catalyst for the festivals storyline. The accouncement described the addition as "set to unfold throughout the duration of the festival, in a full throttle, dazzling display of modern-day circus and mind-bending technologies".
The show was said to feature circus and performance, alongside "boundary-pushing sound design, technology and special effects to create a 360 degree experience", and will be performed across multiple stages and areas over the 5-days.

Site changes

Chapter 12 was slated to see the introduction of a new district Forgotten Valley as a replacement for Whistler's Green. The new district was to encapsulate the Kidztown and Floating Lotus stages, but see the replacement of The Lighthouse stage with a new area known as Ancient Futures.
