Bowl cut

A bowl cut, also known as a mushroom cut, is a haircut where the hair is cut short on the sides and back and long on the top. It is named so because it looks as though someone were to place a bowl on the head and cut off or trim all of the hair to a short length.

History

Historically, the bowl cut was popular among common people of various nationalities as an easy and relatively neat cut by a barber. It was also popular during the 1990s.
The popularity of the bowl cut faded in the early-mid 2000s.
Since the 2010s, the cut is often ridiculed by many and mocked in internet memes.
The Anti-Defamation League now considers it a hate symbol, claiming that it has been adopted by white supremacists as an homage to Dylann Roof, who opened fire in a predominantly black church on June 17, 2015.
