Brendan Carr (lawyer)


Brendan Thomas Carr is an American lawyer who currently serves as a commissioner of the Federal Communications Commission. He previously served as an aide to FCC member Ajit Pai and as the FCC's general counsel. Carr also worked as a telecommunications attorney at the law firm of Wiley Rein.

Biography

Carr holds a B.A. from Georgetown University and a J.D. from the Columbus School of Law at the Catholic University of America. He was a law clerk for Judge Dennis Shedd of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. He worked in private practice at Wiley Rein before becoming a legal advisor to Federal Communications Commission member Ajit Pai, whom he advised on wireless, public safety, and international issues. In January 2017, Carr became general counsel of the FCC. President Donald Trump nominated Carr to become a commissioner of the FCC in June 2017, and in August 2017, Carr was confirmed by the United States Senate.
