CA Foundation Course


The CA Foundation Course is the new entrance level for the Chartered Accountancy course in India. Earlier it was known as the Common Proficiency Test.

Eligibility

The candidate can register for the CA Foundation after appearing in 12th board examinations and take the exam after qualifying the 12th examinations.

Test model

is a partially subjective and a partially objective test comprising the following four papers:
  1. Principles and Practices of Accounting.
  2. Business Laws and Business Correspondence and Reporting.
  3. Business Mathematics and Logical Reasoning & Statistics.
  4. Business Economics & Business and Commercial Knowledge.
The first two papers are subjective while the latter two are objective. Each paper is worth 100 marks for a total of 400 marks.

Registration

A candidate has to register for CA Foundation Course by filling up the available on the ICAI website. The last date for registration is December/June for May/Nov terms of examination. Registration to CA Foundation course is valid only for three years. After expiry of initial registration, you have option to re-validate registration period.

Date of the exams

Exams for the CA Foundation are held in May and November. ICAI announces the in the month of July for the November term of examination and in the month of January for the May term of examination. Note that due to the Lok Sabha elections, ICAI has postponed the May 2019 exams originally scheduled from 2 May to 17 May stand rescheduled to 3 June 2019 to 13 June 2019.

Admit cards

Admit cards are issued by the ICAI 26 days before exam. You should visit official website http://icaiexam.icai.org for downloading admit card.

Exemption

CA Foundation is exempt for graduates, post-graduates and the students having equivalent degrees. Commerce graduated with 55% and other graduated with 60% marks can take direct admission for the CA Intermediate.
