CGTN Africa

CGTN Africa is the African bureau of China Global Television Network, the English-language news channel run by Chinese state broadcaster China Central Television. It is based in Nairobi and manages bureaux across Africa. The other main bureaux are based in Lagos, Cairo and Johannesburg.
The service employs a mix of Kenyan, African and other international journalists and produces African based programming. There are about 100 employees at CGTN Africa most of them Kenyans. The channel was previously known as CCTV Africa.
With CGTN Africa the intention is to promote a better understanding of Africa in China as well as to promote a cultural connection between the people of both places. The idea is that African news is better depicted from an African perspective. CGTN focuses on politics, economy, trade and culture.
